Who are we?

We4Sea makes the shipping industry more fuel and cost-efficient. Our cloud-based platform lets shipowners and charterers monitor their fleet, pinpointing technical, logistical and economic issues across hundreds of vessels. Our in-house Digital Twin model monitors any ship without hardware onboard.
Our clients are among the largest dry-bulk charterers in the world. The difference between a vessel performing to charter party terms and quietly losing half a knot runs into millions per fleet per year. That is the problem we solve, with evidence.
We work from a small office in the heart of Rotterdam, right next to Central Station.
What will you do?
You start by learning how a ship really behaves at sea, and how to prove it with data.
- Speed loss assessments. You take a vessel's AIS track, weather, noon reports and charter party terms, and use the Digital Twin to work out how much of the lost speed is the weather and how much is the ship. You write the assessment: the analysis, the conclusion, and the recommendation.
- Digital Twins. You build and calibrate Digital Twins for vessels entering our clients' fleets.
- Data judgment. When sources disagree, you make a defensible choice about which to use.
- Onboarding. You support new customers: account setup, vessel report integration and data quality checks.
- Client contact. You join client calls from day one, so you learn how the commercial side of shipping works.
- Product development. You test new features and tell the development team what clients actually need. Our dashboard evolves with your input.
Within two years, the goal is that you run your own client portfolio.
What do you bring?
- BSc or MSc in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Maritime Technology — recent graduate or up to 2 years' experience
- Genuine interest in ship hydrodynamics: resistance, propulsion, and why a vessel loses half a knot
- Affinity with data — Excel is a given, basic Python is a strong plus, and a willingness to learn our stack (Python, MongoDB) is essential. You do not need to be a developer.
- You enjoy client contact and you can write: our deliverable is a report an owner may dispute, so clear, precise English matters more than it does in most engineering jobs
- Good social skills, good judgment, and a focus on quality
- Able to communicate in English, written and spoken. Dutch is an advantage, not a requirement.
- Entitled to work in the Netherlands — EU citizens qualify automatically. Living here, or willing to move at your own initiative.
A thesis or internship in ship performance, voyage optimisation or maritime data is a real advantage — tell us about it.
Who do you work with?
You work within our international operations team, alongside the senior consultants who will coach you, and with our data and development colleagues. You will get responsibility early, with a senior colleague backing you up for as long as you need it.
What do you get?
- Full-time (40 hours), salary appropriate for a starter
- Participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Program — you own part of what you build
- You will learn more in a year here than in three somewhere larger, at the intersection of naval architecture, data and shipping commerce
- Direct contact with the biggest names in dry-bulk shipping
- A public transport card for work-related travel
- Maximum flexibility on where and when you work; (partial) working from home or elsewhere is possible
- A pretty cool office in the heart of Rotterdam, right next to Central Station
